About Padre Island
National Sheashore
The Padre Island National Seashore is
located on North Padre Island, Texas and encompasses 80 miles
of undeveloped beach between Corpus Christi and the Port Mansfield
jetties. 56 miles of this beach area is isolated and designated
"4 wheel drive vehicles only." It affords visitors the
rare opportunity to truly "get away from it all." Whether
the visitor is interested in surf fishing, shelling, bird watching
or just enjoying a day sight seeing; a safari down the Padre Island
National Seashore is an experience to remember.
The Coastal Bend of Texas is world renowned
as a Mecca for both birds and bird watchers and the beach of the
Padre Island National Seashore is certainly no exception. Spring
migration is particularly spectacular. Among the species seen
here are Pomarine and Parasitic Jaegers, Masked and Brown Boobies,
Northern Gannets, Sooty and Audubon Shearwaters, Lesser Black
Backed, Greater Black Backed, Sabine's and Glaucous Gulls, Black
Legged Kittawake, Sooty Terns and half of the state's total of
6 sightings of Brown Noddy. A variety of shore, wading and diving
birds are present year round.
